Turkey is re-igniting conflict with Greece again

Today, Monday, the Greek Foreign Ministry revealed Turkey's plans to re-sail a ship for exploration and discovery of gas in the eastern Mediterranean region, which would lead to a military escalation that threatens peace and security in the region.  According to the Turkish newspaper "Ahwal", the Turkish navy announced the launch of the ship "Aruj Reis" from the port of Antalya for exploration and detection of gas in the eastern Mediterranean within ten days in an area near the Greek island of Kastelorizo.

The Greek Foreign Ministry considered that the exploration operations south of the island of Kastelorizo, which is located 6.5 miles from the Greek shores, a major escalation, accusing Turkey of playing a sabotage role in the region.  Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said that Turkey is working to inflame the region, sowing disputes and violating international protocols.

Dendias indicated that Turkey is the common denominator in all the files of the conflict in the region (Karabakh - Syria - Iraq - Libya - the Eastern Mediterranean).  In response to Turkey's move, the Greek government issued, earlier in the day, a new navigation notice to warn Turkish ships from entering its territorial waters, after Turkey sent the exploration vessel "OroƧ Rais" to the eastern Mediterranean.

For its part, France issued a stern warning to the regime of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, demanding that it refrain from any new provocations and show goodwill.  "We expect Turkey to fulfill its obligations, refrain from any provocations and show concrete evidence of goodwill," said French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Molle.
