The President-designate of COP28 meets with a number of US government officials at the White House

His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and President-designate of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), recently met with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs John Kerry and other senior US government officials at the White House. The meeting focused on raising global climate ambition and the path to COP28.

During the meeting, Dr. Al Jaber emphasized the UAE's commitment to addressing climate change and its efforts to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. He also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in achieving global climate goals.

John Kerry praised the UAE's leadership in renewable energy and its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He stressed that collaboration between countries is crucial in tackling climate change and achieving a sustainable future.

The meeting comes ahead of COP26, which will take place in Glasgow later this year, where countries will come together to discuss their progress towards meeting their climate targets under the Paris Agreement. The UAE is set to host COP28 in 2023, which will be a crucial opportunity for countries to further raise their climate ambitions.

Dr. Al Jaber's visit to Washington D.C. also included meetings with other US government officials and business leaders to discuss opportunities for collaboration on clean energy and advanced technology.

The UAE has made significant strides in renewable energy over the past decade, with ambitious targets to generate 50% of its electricity from clean sources by 2050. The country is also investing heavily in advanced technology such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and space exploration as part of its efforts to diversify its economy.

By hosting COP28, the UAE aims to bring together countries from around the world to accelerate action on climate change and drive progress towards a sustainable future for all.
