Bayern Munich Advances to Round of 16 After Defeating Boca Juniors
Bayern Munich secured their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup after a 2-1 victory over Argentina’s Boca Juniors on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, as part of Group C action.
The German side scored through England’s Harry Kane in the 18th minute and France’s Michael Olise in the 84th, while Boca’s only goal came from Uruguayan forward Merentiel in the 66th minute.
Bayern striker Harry Kane expressed his enjoyment of the tournament’s “special” atmosphere and said he feels confident in his team’s ability to go far in the competition.
Kane highlighted the challenge posed by Boca Juniors, particularly due to the heat and humidity of South Florida, noting, “Next year will be similar,” in reference to the 2026 World Cup.
He also praised Boca’s passionate fanbase, which numbered over 55,000 of the total 63,587 attendees: “It felt like we were playing away from home. Their fans were incredibly loud—it was an amazing experience playing against them.”
This was the first victory by a European team over a South American opponent in this edition of the tournament. Kane emphasized how much he enjoys facing unfamiliar teams and reiterated his belief in Bayern’s potential: “I think we have a good chance to win the title.”
