Abdullah bin Zayed and the Chinese Foreign Minister affirm the depth of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in a joint statement
His Excellency Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates on December 12 and 13, at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. During the visit, an in-depth exchange of views took place on the entirety of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the two friendly peoples, in addition to issues of common interest
Development of the comprehensive strategic partnership
The two sides noted that the comprehensive strategic partnership between the UAE and the People’s Republic of China has witnessed positive developments in various fields, fulfilling the aspirations of the leadership and people of both countries for progress and prosperity. They agreed to implement the important agreements reached during the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, to the People’s Republic of China and his meeting with His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, in May 2024, in an effort to elevate bilateral relations to broader horizons at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.
Mutual positions on sovereign issues
The Chinese side expressed its firm support for the United Arab Emirates in maintaining its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, while the UAE side affirmed its firm commitment to the One China principle, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, its firm support for the Chinese government’s efforts to achieve the reunification of the country, and its rejection of interference by external forces in China’s internal affairs .
Supporting peaceful solutions and regional conflicts
The Chinese side also expressed its support for the UAE’s efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the dispute over the three islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, through bilateral negotiations in accordance with the rules of international law, including the Charter of the United Nations .
Development and Strategic Cooperation
The Chinese side praised the developmental achievements made by the UAE in various fields, expressing its readiness to deepen the alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative, the UAE Vision 2031, and the 50-Year Plan, and to work together to drive development to higher levels
Mutual appreciation of international initiatives and visions
The UAE side commended the successful convening of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, considering that its results will promote high-quality development in China and mutually beneficial international cooperation. It also expressed its appreciation for the global initiatives put forward by His Excellency Xi Jinping, including initiatives for development, security, civilization and global governance, and welcomed cooperation within their framework .
Strengthening cooperation across various sectors
Both sides affirmed their appreciation for the positive results achieved in the course of practical cooperation between the two countries, and expressed their readiness to enhance cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, oil and gas, renewable energy, water, infrastructure, technology, research and science, in addition to cooperation in the military fields, law enforcement, combating extremism and terrorism, and intensifying exchange in the fields of Chinese language education, tourism and civil aviation .
Upcoming summits and regional and international cooperation
The UAE side expressed its support for the Chinese side to host the second China-Arab Summit in 2026, and its support for holding the second summit between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council in parallel, stressing its readiness to make joint efforts to ensure the success of both summits. The Chinese side, in turn, affirmed its readiness to work on completing the negotiations for the China-Gulf Free Trade Agreement as soon as possible
Shared positions on peace issues
Both sides renewed their commitment to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, which entails the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state in accordance with the June 4, 1967 borders and international legitimacy resolutions. They also appreciated the international efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, and stressed the need for all parties to adhere to it in order to alleviate human suffering and create the conditions for achieving a lasting peace .
Multilateral international coordination
The Chinese side commended the UAE’s positive and influential role in the region, while the UAE side appreciated China’s efforts to support peace and stability in the Middle East and the world. Both sides affirmed their commitment to strengthening coordination within the United Nations, the BRICS group, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and other multilateral platforms, in order to contribute to greater prosperity and progress for the international community
