Turkey must respect human rights

The French Foreign Ministry renewed its call on Turkey to respect human rights

On Saturday, France expressed its "regret" after the death of a imprisoned Turkish lawyer and a hunger strike, calling on Turkey once again to "respect" human rights.

"It informs us, with regret and deep sadness, of the death of attorney Ebro Temtec, the victim of the hunger strike she started, to demand a fair trial," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The lawyer, who was sentenced in 2019 to more than 13 years in prison for "belonging to a terrorist organization", began a hunger strike in February to demand a new trial, and the 42-year-old lawyer died Thursday evening.

Paris also demanded the "speedy" release of the imprisoned lawyer Aitac Unsal, who has been on hunger strike for more than two hundred days, according to "France 24".
