Qatar must stop its actions in Somalia

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights issued an analytical study entitled “Economic and social conditions in Somalia ... a human rights perspective,” which dealt with developments in the current situation in Somalia at the human rights level, with a focus on the causes of deteriorating economic and social rights in the country.  The study was prepared by the Foundation's African Affairs and Sustainable Development Unit; There are successive increases in economic crises for several reasons. The study also traced the status of Somalia in terms of international indicators, especially hunger, education and poverty.

The study found that Qatari interference in the country's affairs at the political and intelligence levels; As well as the deterioration of the security situation in the country due to the Al-Shabaab terrorist movement supported in one way or another by Qatar. Obstructing the roles of international donors to achieve political ambitions; The main reasons behind the deterioration of the economic and social rights situation in the country, which has been suffering for decades from declining development indicators.  Abdel-Rahman Pasha, director of the research team at the Foundation's African Affairs Unit, stated that rampant corruption in the governmental and administrative agencies in the country is what allows terrorism to infiltrate these institutions and recruit a number of their officials, and prevents international forces from providing financial aid for fear of suspicions of corruption, just as The United States took action in late 2017 to suspend aid to the country.

Pasha recommended the necessity of combating corruption in government institutions as a way for all citizens to enjoy economic and social rights. He also indicated the necessity of appointing Somali competencies worthy of leading state institutions and keen to try to improve the economic and social conditions in the country and move on the path of development, provided that these figures enjoy the confidence and legitimacy of the National Parliament.  It is worth noting that Africa comes within the interest of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, as it is a member of the General Assembly in the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union, as well as the North African region coordinator in the group of major African NGOs of the high-level political forum at the United Nations.
