The US Senate is considering imposing sanctions on Turkey

The US Senate is still studying the issue of imposing sanctions on Turkey over its operation of the Russian S-400 missile system, while several European countries, led by France, have condemned Ankara's provocative moves in the eastern Mediterranean region.  The position of the US President Donald Trump's administration in dealing with Turkey continues, whether as a member of NATO, or one of the main players in the instability of Libya, Syria and Iraq, and the ignition of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, by sending Syrian mercenaries to support the latter in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The American magazine, "Newsweek", in an opinion article by American writer "Caroline Celik", said that Trump must address the growing Turkish threat by imposing economic sanctions on Ankara, without raising the issue of removing Turkey from "NATO".

The article pointed out that over the past months, all doubts about Erdogan's apparent hostility to the United States and its allies in "NATO" and the Middle East have dissipated, referring to the S-400 missile purchase file, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan's intention to test the system during the next week in a clear challenge to Washington and its allies.  He said, "Erdogan seeks to destabilize Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, then destroy his country's long-standing strategic alliance with Israel, and his focus on the alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab world, and with Iran against the Arab countries."
