UNRWA: UAE renews its continued commitment to supporting Palestinian people


 The United Nations Agency (UNRWA) praised the support of the UAE, stressing that the UAE is one of the most generous countries in providing it with support.

During an exceptional international meeting at the ministerial level, hosted by the governments of Jordan and Sweden, yesterday, the agency was able to obtain pledges of $ 130 million from 75 countries and regional and international organizations. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and the Swedish Minister of International Cooperation and Development, Peter Erickson, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, the Commissioner-General of the Agency, Philip Lazarini, and foreign ministers and representatives from many countries.


Lazzarini said, "Partnerships with Arab countries are very important to the Agency, and the UAE's support for UNRWA is among the most generous, and the United Arab Emirates will chair the UNRWA Advisory Committee in early July."


He added that one of the most important focus of the participants was the role of the Agency in creating a kind of stability in the lives of Palestine refugees, and the importance of about half a million children continuing to receive education in the Agency's schools, and that health centers continue to provide services to Palestinian refugees
