The implementation of the designs created by teams that competed in the International Competition for Universities' first and second sessions to build solar-powered homes (Solar Decathlon - Middle East) and establish sustainable research facilities can be seen in several areas throughout the country's various emirates.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, served as the competition's patron. It was organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority within the framework of a partnership between the Authority and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the US Department of Energy.

The competition was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, and was organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority as part of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the Authority's partnership with the US Department of Energy.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said: “We are pleased to see the positive impact that the competition has had in Dubai and its support for the (Dubai Urban Plan 2040), which draws an integrated map of urban development, whose main focus is development. To make Dubai the best city for living in the world.”
