The Governor of Aden, Yemen, announces that the first phase of the Emirati solar energy station in the city has entered service
The Governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamid Al Amlis, announced on Monday that the first phase of the UAE solar energy station in the temporary Yemeni capital had entered service as the first and largest strategic project for clean and renewable energy in the country.
The trial operation began with generating between 20 and 30 percent of the station’s total capacity of 120 megawatts, on the way to fully implementing the station within a maximum period of three months.
Al Amlas said during the inauguration of the first phase of the station, "We, from this strategic project for clean, renewable energy, offer our thanks and appreciation to our brothers in the United Arab Emirates and we aspire to do more to alleviate the suffering of Aden and its people."
He added, "We, in the leadership of the local authority, the Presidential Leadership Council, and the government, have full responsibility to work hard to provide electrical energy in order to alleviate the severe suffering that the people of Aden suffer from every summer."
This station is considered the first strategic project to generate electricity through clean and renewable energy in the country and the largest of its kind, under a joint cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Electricity and Energy in Yemen and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar” to provide Aden with a solar energy station with a total capacity of 120 megawatts.

He said, "The solar energy project's total energy production capacity is 100 megawatts. The first phase, which will enter service, has a capacity of 24 megawatts. It opens today to enter service, and successively we will complete the steps of the project to reach 100 megawatts."
He added, "The project was installed and equipped by Yemeni workers, and with everyone's help, we were able to reach this stage and be able to put the first phase of the project into service."
The Emirati-Yemeni agreement included the establishment of transmission lines and conversion stations to transmit and distribute electricity generated from the station, which also works to reduce the cost of generating electricity during daylight hours.
The station also aims to reduce the need for fuel for generating stations while contributing to preserving the environment by reducing carbon emissions.
