Roach Swears Zendaya’s Met Gala Dress Isn’t Ready Yet

We're just a few days away from the 2024 Met Gala next Monday, and one major name isn't quite ready: Zendaya. The Dune actress isn't just one of everyone's favorites on fashion's biggest night, but this year, she's also an event co-chair alongside Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny, and Jennifer Lopez. In a new interview with The New York Times, Zendaya's longtime stylist said that the dress isn't ready. In fact, he still hasn't even seen the dress she'll wear this year. There's also no fitting scheduled until just two days before the big night.

“I haven’t seen Zendaya’s dress!” he said. “We’ve been on two press tours—Dune 2 and Challengers—and doing two Vogue covers. The dress isn’t even made. They won’t fit until Saturday.”

While many consider Zendaya to be a Met Gala staple, she hasn't actually been at the event for the past five years, which makes her 2024 look all the more exciting for fans.

During an Apr. 23 interview on Live with Kelly and Mark, Zendaya said the Met Gala is exciting, yet "terrifying."

"Going up the steps is very daunting, and I haven't been back for maybe four or five years," she said. "So this is, like, my first time back at the Met in quite a while."

The actress also revealed what it has been like to work with Roach for so long. The two have collaborated since she was a teenager and have managed to create some of the most memorable fashion moments ever, including bringing back vintage Mugler robot suits and creating literal Cinderella moments on the Met steps.

"It's fun in the sense that I like to look at fashion as creativity," she explained. "Even in press tours, it's a way to continue the creativity from the film...I like to create characters because, ultimately, sometimes, doing this for a living feels a little weird and awkward, and I'm more of a shy, introverted person, so I get to create these characters. 'I'm this woman today who wears a green suit.' You get to embody this character for a day, and clothes can do that for you."
