The UAE Supplies 45.5% of Japan’s Oil Imports in April


Official Japanese data revealed that the United Arab Emirates topped the list of oil exporters to Japan in April 2025, with Tokyo importing 34 million barrels of crude oil from the UAE.


This volume accounted for 45.5% of Japan’s total oil imports for that month, according to figures released by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, part of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.


In total, Japan imported 74.77 million barrels of crude oil in April, with Arab countries dominating the supply, providing 94.1% of the imports — equivalent to 70.40 million barrels. These Arab suppliers included the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Sudan.


Following the UAE, Saudi Arabia ranked second, supplying 27.10 million barrels or 36.3% of Japan’s oil imports. Qatar contributed 5.25 million barrels (7%), followed by Kuwait with 2.79 million barrels (3.7%). Oman accounted for 1.2%, and Sudan supplied 0.4%.


The remaining oil imports came from other sources, including the United States (3.9%), Ecuador (1.4%), Brunei in Southeast Asia (0.2%), and countries in Oceania (0.1%).
