Marseille Sign Brazilian Winger Igor Paixão from Feyenoord in €35M Deal
Olympique de Marseille have secured the signing of Brazilian winger Igor Paixão from Dutch club Feyenoord in a deal reportedly worth up to €35 million, as the Ligue 1 side looks to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the new season.
The 25-year-old had an impressive campaign last season, scoring 18 goals in 47 appearances, and was named Eredivisie Player of the Season. His pace, flair, and consistent performances attracted interest from several clubs, with Leeds United, recently promoted to the English Premier League, reportedly in the running for his signature. However, Marseille ultimately won the race.
The club officially announced the transfer late Friday night, although no formal financial details were disclosed. According to French media, the deal includes an initial €30 million fee, with an additional €5 million in performance-based bonuses.
Paixão notably showcased his talent on the European stage earlier this year, scoring the winning goal against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League, where his speed and dribbling caused consistent problems for the Italian side's defense.
This marks another major attacking acquisition for Marseille following their record €32 million signing of striker Vitinha from Braga in early 2023. However, Vitinha struggled to adapt, scoring just six goals in 43 appearances before being sold to Genoa.
Marseille finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain last season and secured direct qualification to the UEFA Champions League. The club will kick off the 2025–26 Ligue 1 season away to Stade Rennais on August 15.
