Spotify launches in-app group messaging feature

Spotify has announced the availability of a group chat feature within its application , which allows users to message up to 10 friends in a The new feature is an extension of conversation, in a new step to enhance social interaction without leaving the application

The new feature is an extension of the messaging service that Spotify first unveiled last year, where users can share songs, playlists, and podcasts directly with friends within group chats.

Keeping users within the platform

Spotify aims, through in-app messaging, to reduce users' reliance on external platforms for sharing content, while providing an integrated communication experience that combines listening and sharing in one place.

Since launching the messaging feature last August, Spotify has added several important updates, most notably sharing what is being listened to in real time, and inviting friends to join collaborative listening sessions within the chat .

Platform race for internal messaging

Spotify is not the only platform seeking to make messaging a part of its experience, as YouTube recently announced it is testing private messages again, after previous attempts that did not last long.
