Will the Pandemic Worsen this Fall?

The world could see an explosion of Covid-19 cases as fall and winter set in. A new wave of coronavirus may decide if the world will see further lockdowns.

Analysts are divided on whether the world will face a surplus or deficit in the season starting next month. As case counts have come down in some countries, we tend to see that people become less careful, they tend to have more contact, this has to change and will change. Experts say vulnerable elderly populations are at extreme risk in the second wave due to a lack of public awareness and government action.

Long-term care facilities bore the brunt of the first wave of the pandemic across the world, with more than 70 per cent of deaths from COVID-19 occurring in those aged over 80. The measures in place were inadequate, they were not up to the task of protecting our seniors appropriately.

Dozens of COVID-19 outbreaks have recently been reported and no concrete action has yet been taken, and the second wave of COVID-19 infections is well underway in previously hard-hit countries. In the absence of strong measures and support from governments, long-term care homes are not currently ready to manage a second wave.
