Turkey continues to provoke in the eastern Mediterranean

In a move that would increase tension in the eastern Mediterranean, Turkey decided to extend the mission of the gas exploration ship in the disputed area with Greece, as the Turkish "Aruj Reis" continues its duties until November 14, by a decision of the Turkish regime.   The French newspaper "La Tribune" reported that Turkey is playing the "provocation" card again in its dispute with Greece, despite the international consensus that the Turkish ship's activities in the eastern Mediterranean are "illegal."

The newspaper referred to a notice issued by the Turkish Navy to extend the work of the seismic survey vessel "Aruj Reis" until November 14, at a time when the two countries that were exposed to a strong earthquake showed understanding in recent days.   For its part, Greece demanded that Turkey cancel the notification issued by the Turkish Navy, stressing that the aforementioned area is located within the Greek continental shelf, a few kilometers from the islands of Rhodes and Kastellorizo.

The Greek Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as "reckless behavior," pledging to submit a new official protest to the European Union on the issue.   The newspaper said in its report that Turkey's insistence on extending the ship's operations in the Mediterranean increases tensions with Greece, which has led to the escalation of the dispute in recent months.
