Turkish authorities persecute opponents

Turkey is suppressing opponents of Erdogan and imprisoning them without evidence against them. We must unite and demand their release.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on Tuesday, November 10 condemned Turkey for having placed in pre-trial detention in 2016 ten journalists from the opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet, suspected by Ankara of making "propaganda" for qualified organizations of "terrorists" by the Turkish regime.

The pre-trial detention imposed on the applicants in the context of criminal proceedings brought against them constitutes an interference with the exercise of their right to freedom of expression", the Court held in its judgment. in Strasbourg. Placed in pre-trial detention in November 2016, one of the applicants, for example, was not released until April 2018.
