Turkey plans to extend its military presence in Libya

The authorities in Turkey submitted a memorandum to parliament to extend the tasks of Turkish forces in Libya for 18 months, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.

Last January, the Turkish parliament approved a memorandum by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which allows sending military forces to Libya in support of the GNA militias.

Earlier, media reports said that the Turkish regime discussed the possibility of using two military bases in Libya, in an attempt to have a permanent Turkish presence in Libya.

Turkey is trying to expand its influence in the eastern Mediterranean and North Africa, hoping to seize the region's rich gas and oil wealth.

The Libyan National Army decided to release a Turkish ship it was holding near the port of Derna last week, after searching and questioning its crew.
