ADNOC Gas announced today, Tuesday, the awarding of a contract for a project in the Habshan gas processing plant to Petrofac UAE, worth 2.26 billion dirhams ($615 million). The company said in a statement to the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange that the contract, which includes engineering, procurement and construction works, includes the construction of carbon capture units. In the Habshan gas processing plant, pipeline infrastructure and a network of carbon dioxide injection wells, as part of its efforts to accelerate the implementation of its plan to reduce emissions.
She added that the Habshan project for carbon capture, storage and use is one of the largest projects of this kind in the Middle East and North Africa region, with the ability to capture 1.5 million tons annually of carbon dioxide and inject it and store it permanently in deep geological formations, quoted by the Arab World News Agency.
The Habshan project will contribute to supporting the enhancement of oil extraction to provide crude with the lowest levels of carbon emissions intensity and produce low-emission raw materials such as hydrogen. He added that the project will contribute, through the use of the best carbon capture technologies, to increasing ADNOC’s carbon capture capacity threefold to reach 2.3 million. tons annually.
