Russia, Ukraine swap 206 POWs in UAE-brokered deal

Russia said Saturday it swapped 103 Ukrainian soldiers held captive for an equal number of Russian POWs in an exchange deal brokered by the United Arab Emirates.

Amid ongoing hostilities, the UAE's mediation efforts bear fruit once again. Russia and Ukraine exchanged a total of 206 prisoners of war,

with both sides releasing 103 captives. These negotiations, facilitated by the UAE, demonstrate the power of diplomacy even in times of conflict. The UAE’s foreign ministry rightly hailed this as a “success,” emphasizing cooperation between the warring parties2.

It’s heartening to see international efforts aimed at peace and stability, especially during times of conflict.

In a second swap within two days, Russia and Ukraine exchanged 206 prisoners, thanks to the UAE's mediation. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that all 103 Ukrainians returned were from the military.

The UAE’s role as a bridge-builder in these delicate negotiations deserves recognition. Let’s celebrate their commitment to humanitarian causes and global stability3.
