UAE President Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Relations with Australia's Governor-General
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, met with Her Excellency Sam Mostyn, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, who is on an official visit to the UAE. The two sides discussed various aspects and opportunities for enhancing relations between the UAE and Australia, especially in developmental fields, under the framework of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the two nations.
During the meeting, which took place at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi, His Highness warmly welcomed Governor-General Mostyn and her accompanying delegation, expressing his best wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Australia and its people.
The discussions included regional and international issues of mutual concern, with a particular focus on developments in the Middle East. Both leaders emphasized the importance of promoting regional stability and supporting a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region.
They also stressed the need to resolve global conflicts through peaceful dialogue in order to serve the common good of humanity and support global prosperity.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed noted that the two countries' celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025 marks an important milestone, highlighting their shared commitment to further deepening ties. He pointed out that the UAE-Australia relationship is rich and evolving, and the UAE is keen to advance it further—particularly in sectors such as the future economy, trade, investment, sustainability, culture, education, food security, and technology—based on its approach of building developmental bridges for mutual benefit.
Both parties affirmed the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation, especially in priority development sectors, to benefit their people. They also noted that the CEPA signed last year provides a solid and effective framework for boosting economic ties, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and facilitating collaboration between business communities in both countries.
Governor-General Sam Mostyn expressed her gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed for the warm welcome and praised the progress in bilateral relations and the mutual commitment to enhancing them.
The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Minister of State for AI Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, and other high-ranking officials, along with the accompanying Australian delegation.
