Following a Thanks giving service at Westminster Abbey earlier in the day, the Prince and Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance at a celebratory concert held by the Household Cavalry.
Kate re-wore a white blazer dress by Self-Portrait, first seen during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The dress features a bouclé bodice with a belt and a pleated lace-adorned skirt. She accessorized with a four-strand pearl necklace and matching clustered earrings, finishing her look with a black velvet bow.
For the church service earlier, Kate opted for a polka-dot dress by Alessandra Rich. She had initially worn a dress inspired by Princess Diana. This time, she completed her ensemble with a hat by Juliette Millinery, beige high heels by Ralph Lauren, and a matching nano handbag from DeMellier. Diana’s pearl-and-diamond earrings added a nostalgic finishing touch.
Princess Diana famously wore a similar polka-dot dress by Victor Edelstein to the Epsom Derby in 1986 and to Royal Ascot in 1988.
Bethan Holt, Fashion News and Features Director at The Daily Telegraph, told People magazine: “I think we’ve seen many examples where the reference was quite intentional, and I believe Kate is using fashion as a very positive way to honor Diana.”
She added, “I think William and Kate have perhaps decided that sometimes it’s lovely for Kate to nod to Diana as a continuing fashion inspiration — and to do so through her own wardrobe. What’s important about these times when Kate references Diana is that she doesn’t copy her look. She constantly updates it to feel modern and appropriate for today.”
