Abdullah bin Zayed Receives President of the European Parliament, Discusses Joint Cooperation and Regional Developments
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, received H.E. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.
During the meeting, held in Abu Dhabi, His Highness welcomed H.E. Metsola and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and the European Union and its member states. The discussions focused on enhancing relations across various levels to serve the shared interests of both sides.
His Highness praised the growing and evolving relationship between the UAE and the EU, particularly in light of the recent announcement to launch negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. This move reflects a shared commitment to fostering prosperous UAE-EU cooperation across multiple sectors.
He also highlighted the strong ties between the UAE Federal National Council and the European Parliament, especially as the UAE is currently hosting a high-level parliamentary event. This event includes a special joint UAE-European session, chaired by H.E. Saqr Ghobash, President of the Federal National Council, and attended by H.E. Roberta Metsola.
His Highness and H.E. Metsola also discussed the serious developments unfolding in the Middle East and their implications for regional peace and security.
His Highness emphasized the important role parliaments play in supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace, regional stability, and international security.
The meeting was also attended by H.E. Saqr Ghobash, President of the Federal National Council; H.E. Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs; and H.E. Mohamed Al Sahlawi, UAE Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union.
