On Wednesday, veteran Spanish footballer Lucas Vázquez officially announced his departure from Real Madrid, bringing an emotional close to a remarkable chapter that spanned nearly two decades.

Vázquez, now 34, joined Real Madrid’s youth academy at the age of 16 and gradually rose through the ranks to become one of the club’s most consistent and beloved players. After a brief loan spell with Espanyol, he made his first-team debut for the club in September 2015. Over the next 10 seasons, Vázquez featured in 402 matches, collecting an impressive 23 major titles—including five UEFA Champions League trophies and four La Liga titles.

His final appearance in a Real Madrid shirt came earlier this month, when he came off the bench during the club’s 0–4 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup.

In a heartfelt message shared via Instagram, Vázquez reflected on his journey:

"It’s been almost 20 years since I arrived at Valdebebas as a 16-year-old, full of dreams and excitement to wear this shirt. Every step of the way has been a gift. Over time, Madrid became my home."

He expressed deep gratitude to club president Florentino Pérez, the coaching staff, teammates, and, most importantly, the fans:

Real Madrid will host an official farewell ceremony on Thursday in honor of Vázquez. President Pérez praised him as a player who embodies the core values of Real Madrid:
