Sports federations in the UAE / Ambitious strategies to enhance international achievements (5)



Sports federations in the UAE are keen to implement their ambitious development plans, aimed at enhancing a strong presence in various continental and international forums, through investing in talents, raising the efficiency of national teams, and adopting advanced preparation programs that are in line with the objectives of the National Sports Strategy 2031, which contributes to consolidating the position of Emirati sports on the global stage.


This report comes as part of a series of weekly reports published by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) to review the plans and strategies of national federations to discover talent, promote different sports, and create champions, in order to multiply achievements at the regional, continental and global levels.


In this context, the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation is working to spread and develop this sport, discover talents, develop competencies in the field of refereeing and training, expand partnerships with national federations and institutions, in addition to signing memoranda of understanding and cooperation with a number of regional and continental federations, which contributes to benefiting from external expertise in developing the game at the local level.


The federation also works to enhance cooperation with clubs in all programs such as organizing competitions, gatherings, talent discovery, diversifying the organization of tournaments, and focusing on some sports that are popular among youth groups, such as obstacle courses.


Dr. Huda Al Matroushi, President of the Modern Pentathlon Federation, stated that the Federation is well aware of the importance of work, adopting advanced programs, benefiting from strategic partnerships in developing capabilities, discovering talents, and cooperating with the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic Committee in organizing various events, and applying scientific and modern methods in implementing quality programs.


She noted that the federation is keen to diversify its championships and events, keep pace with the aspirations of different groups in society, and work to meet the aspirations of young people through modern sports that combine physical fitness, speed and skill, in addition to investing in local and regional cooperation to spread the game widely.


For its part, the UAE Fencing Federation is keen on early planning and systematic scientific work to achieve gradual goals, in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee, and to attract clubs to include fencing in their programs and activities, given its pivotal role in developing capabilities.


Musa Al Balushi, the Secretary-General of the Federation, affirmed that the plans adopted by the Federation stem from its keenness on national achievements, bringing this sport to the podiums of victory, and empowering male and female players with the skills that lead them to the best competitive indicators in the game.


He pointed out that the Federation is keen in its programs to expand the base of participation, implement strategic plans, be keen to discover talents, and work on cooperation and coordination with various parties on frameworks that can enhance the spread of the game, in addition to attracting sponsors, and refining administrative and technical expertise, due to its great impact on supporting the work system.


For its part, the UAE Chess Federation bases its developmental and strategic vision primarily on schools, and has included in its agenda the goal of teaching the game to 300,000 male and female students, discovering talents, and adopting community programs to expand the scope of the game at all levels.


The federation stressed that practical experiences have proven that schools are the real treasure for discovering talents, creating champions, and establishing a solid base of elements that can contribute to bringing the game to international podiums, especially since the past years have witnessed the emergence of a number of champions of different ages, in addition to achieving tangible results in international championships.


The federation worked to create new championships for people with disabilities, while providing all the requirements to develop the levels of male and female players, as part of the plan to prepare for their participation in the Abu Dhabi 2028 Olympics, in addition to giving academies the opportunity to participate in the various competitions.


The Federation’s Board of Directors is keen to implement the national vision to promote social inclusion through sports events, especially since chess has a great ability to enhance mental abilities, develop skills, and improve competitive capabilities, in addition to diversifying partnerships with clubs and sports sectors, and working to organize and host tournaments, given their pivotal role in developing the skills of male and female players.


Dr. Saif Salem Lakhraibani Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the UAE Chess Federation and currently the Commissioner for the Presidency of the Federation, explained that the efforts undertaken by the Federation on various fronts represent an integrated plan that looks to the future, with the aim of building a broad base of male and female players, and working to expand the circle of competitions through schools and community initiatives.
