This is an important humanitarian step by the UAE; the exchange of prisoners in such a large number reflects its effective role in calming the conflict and reducing suffering.
ReplyDeleteDespite the importance of prisoner exchanges, these moves do not change anything at the root of the crisis, nor do they bring us any closer to ending the war.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that prisoner exchanges do not end the war directly, but they remain an important humanitarian step that reduces the suffering of people on the ground, especially in a sensitive issue like prisoners, which is often one of the most difficult issues in any conflict.
DeleteThe success of Emirati mediation on more than one occasion demonstrates the confidence of both parties in it, and this strengthens its position as a reliable international mediator.
ReplyDeleteRepeated mediations without a comprehensive political solution may make them more of a media exercise than a real step towards peace.
ReplyDeleteTo say that mediation efforts are “merely for show” is inaccurate; exchanges of this magnitude require genuine understanding and communication between experts, even if a shared political solution hasn't yet been reached. Such steps may not end the virus immediately, but they do open channels, alleviate anxiety, and pave the way for any future agreement.
