The government of Armenia announced today, Sunday, that "Russia will intervene militarily to ensure our security in accordance with bilateral agreements." In turn, the European Union considered that "the increase in civilian casualties in Karabakh is unacceptable," calling for immediate negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called for an immediate ceasefire in Nagorno Karabakh, and said that Moscow is ready to find a solution to this conflict, through the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated on its website that Lavrov also informed his Armenian counterpart today that Russia is concerned about the high number of dead and injured in this war, which broke out in late September.
Today, Azerbaijan said that Armenian forces fired missiles at Ganja, its second largest city, killing a civilian and wounding four, and pledged to respond and destroy military targets inside Armenia. Armenia said on Sunday that Turkey's military support for Azerbaijan was expanding the war and undermining regional security.
