The UAE supports the efforts of the Global Agenda in representing trade

 His Excellency Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi, Member of the Federal National Council and Member of the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference of the World Trade Organization, participated in the organization’s 2023 Forum and the (52nd) meeting of the Steering Committee, which were held at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

During his participation in the forum’s discussion panel on the topic “Activating the role of trade for the environment: the role of parliamentarians,” Marwan Al Muhairi stressed that the UAE supports the efforts of the global agenda in representing trade, and supports the climate change dialogue by hosting the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Climate "COP28" in Expo City Dubai and the accompanying parliamentary meeting, which is organized in cooperation between the Federal National Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in addition to hosting the World Trade Organization parliamentary conference on the sidelines of the World Trade Organization ministerial meeting scheduled to be held during the first quarter of next year in Abu Dhabi. Noting the importance of the presence of parliamentarians in these events to express their opinions and establish sustainable policies that achieve a balance between economic development and environmental preservation according to an integrated approach.

He presented the UAE’s achievements in the field of confronting climate change and promoting investment in clean energy, and the UAE’s announcement of the carbon neutrality initiative or zero carbon emissions by 2045, stressing the importance of the parliaments’ initiative in supporting the climate change agenda. He also presented the efforts of the Federal National Council during its legislative chapters. In this regard, according to his constitutional mandate, which consisted of discussing more than 50 pieces of legislation and implementing nearly 100 initiatives for a greener parliament.
