The UAE officially joined the "BRICS" group after the five founding countries ratified its request to join the group, namely, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, the People's Republic of China, and the Republic of South Africa. This announcement came during the meeting of the leaders of the five countries during the period from August 22-24 in Johannesburg for the 15th BRICS Summit.

The UAE is committed to multilateral action and constructive dialogue, which is strengthened through effective platforms that represent developing and emerging economies at the international level. In this regard, joining the BRICS group reflects the UAE's keenness on pluralism in supporting peace and development to achieve the well-being and prosperity of peoples and nations. The UAE is a long-term partner of the "BRICS" group, as it participated in the "BRICS Friends" forum last June in Cape Town, which is part of the meeting of foreign ministers of the "BRICS" group, chaired by the Republic of South Africa.

The UAE also joined the new development bank of the "BRICS" group in October 2021, after its establishment in 2015 to mobilize resources for infrastructure projects and sustainable development in developing and emerging countries and in the countries of the group. Commenting on the UAE's accession to the "BRICS" group, His Highness Sheikh said Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs: “We thank the five founding members of BRICS for joining the group, which embodies the approach of partnership and the spirit of friendship established by the BRICS group.” His Highness added: “This development is part of the priorities The UAE in promoting constructive dialogue through effective platforms representing the economies of developing and emerging countries, focusing on long-term economic prosperity and maintaining balanced strategic and economic relations.
