Armenia proposes cooperation on Gyumri dry port to UAE
Armenia proposed collaboration on a dry port project in the country’s Shirak province to the United Arab Emirates, Armenia’'s Ministry of Economy reported on Monday.
Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan met with the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi and the UAE Deputy Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Omar Suwaina Al-Suwaidi on the sidelines of the INNOPROM-2024 forum in Russia’s Yekaterinburg.
According to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Economy, the discussions covered potential cooperation in the agricultural sector, export promotion, quality standardization, and programs where the UAE could participate as a co-investor.
Minister Papoyan also highlighted the Armenian government's Crossroads of Peace initiative, aimed at fostering a new era of peace and stability in the region for Armenia and its neighboring countries.
Additionally, the Armenian government plans to invest $37 million to construct a dry port near Gyumri that will be connected with Shirak International Airport, the railway, and the North-South transport corridor.
The Shirak province is expected to transform into an industrial zone, with the dry port serving as a multifunctional and multimodal hub for regional and international companies needing to consolidate customs processes.
