Zamalek are closing in on their 15th Egyptian league title.

Zamalek moved closer to securing their 15th Egyptian Premier League title with a 1-0 victory over hosts Smouha on Tuesday, in the penultimate round of the championship stage.

At the "Borg El Arab" stadium, the sons of the White Castle regained their balance after losing to Al-Ahly by three goals to nil on Friday.

The first half of the Zamalek vs. Smouha match ended in a goalless draw, after caution prevailed in the performance, which was reflected in the scarcity of real opportunities on both goals.

In the second half, Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal brought on Juan Bezerra, who succeeded in creating the only goal of the match, which was scored by Palestinian Oday Dabbagh in the 62nd minute, after he met a cross from the Brazilian player with a powerful header that found the back of the net.

Bezerra left the field of play in the 68th minute due to his injury, and Mohamed El-Sayed came in to replace him. The following minutes passed amidst attempts by Smouha to equalize, but Zamalek's defense managed to keep a clean sheet.

By defeating Smouha, they maintained their chances of winning the championship title, which has eluded them since the 2022 season. They only need to defeat Ceramica Cleopatra in the final round to secure the title.

Al Ahly has won the league title 45 times, while Pyramids has never won it.

Zamalek raised its tally to 53 points at the top of the standings, two points ahead of Pyramids, who drew 1-1 with Ceramica, while Al-Ahly comes in third with 50 points after winning against its guest Enppi 3-0.

Al Ahly’s three goals were scored by Hussein El Shahat, Ahmed Mostafa Zizo from a penalty kick, and Moroccan Ashraf Bencharki in the 8th, 21st, and 48th minutes.

Meanwhile, Pyramids drew 1-1 with their host Ceramica Cleopatra, with Mohamed Reda opening the scoring for the home side in the 31st minute, and Nasser Maher equalizing for the visitors in the 36th minute.
