| Sharjah finished the season in eighth place with 29 points |
By the numbers... Last season was Sharjah's worst in 8 years
According to statistics and figures monitored by “Emirates Today”, the 2025-2026 season is the worst for Sharjah Football Club during the last eight seasons, especially in the Professional League, after it finished the season in eighth place with 29 points, which is a low position compared to the results achieved by the team during the past years.
Sharjah's decline was not limited to the league only, but it bid farewell to all other competitions early, as it exited the President's Cup in the round of 16 after losing to United, and it also left the Professional League Cup competitions early, and it bid farewell to the AFC Champions League Elite, after only one season of winning the AFC Champions League title for the first time in its history.
In contrast, the team succeeded in winning the UAE Super Cup and the UAE-Qatar Super Cup titles during the past season.
Comparing the team’s results in the league during recent seasons, it finished as runner-up in the 2024-2025 season with 51 points behind champion Shabab Al Ahli, and finished fourth in the 2023-2024 season with 42 points, seventh in the 2022-2023 season with 43 points, second in the 2021-2022 season with 55 points behind Al Ain, while it came fourth in the 2020-2021 season with 48 points, while it won the league title in the 2018-2019 season with 59 points.
Despite Sharjah having a distinguished group of local and foreign players, in addition to its recent signings that strengthened its ranks, the team suffered a significant decline in results, after achieving only eight victories out of 26 matches, compared to five draws and 13 losses.
The team also conceded 47 goals in 26 matches, despite having veteran goalkeeper Adel Al Hosani, one of the league's top goalkeepers, while scoring only 35 goals.
Despite the attempts of the club's management and coaching staff to bring about a qualitative shift in the team's performance, the efforts did not succeed in addressing the technical problems that the team suffered during the season, which were clearly reflected in its results and ranking in the league table.
Portuguese coach Jose Morais is the third coach to lead Sharjah since the departure of Romanian coach Olariu Cosmin to coach the national team. Serbian Milos had taken over the job after Cosmin, before his contract was terminated by mutual consent due to the decline in results, so that national coach Abdulmajid Al-Nimr took over temporarily, before contracting with Morais.
Sharjah’s last league title win dates back to the 2018-2019 season under coach Abdulaziz Al Anbari, while all the coaches who took over after him failed to regain the title, including Romanian Olariu Cosmin, who led the team between 2021 and April 2025.
Despite not winning the league title, Cosmin achieved five championships with Sharjah: the President’s Cup in 2022 and 2023, the UAE Super Cup in 2023, the Professional League Cup in 2023, and the AFC Champions League title in 2025.
