King Charles Puts Queen Elizabeth’s Helicopter and Personal Car Up for Sale

In a notable move, King Charles has put Queen Elizabeth II’s luxurious helicopter up for sale, with expectations that the transaction could reach up to £5 million.

The helicopter, a 2009 Sikorsky model, features a sleek red finish and eight seats. It has been a part of the royal family’s fleet since its purchase and will be replaced by two more environmentally friendly aircraft, each estimated to cost around £8.5 million, according to the Daily Mail.

The Royal Family began using AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters last year, which run on 50% sustainable aviation fuel. The outgoing helicopter had served the late Queen for 15 years.

Photos of the lavish interior have recently emerged, showcasing spacious grey leather seats, plush blue carpeting, magazine racks, a wooden clock, and tinted windows for added elegance. Aircraft broker AeroAsset confirmed that the helicopter had only one owner and was designed specifically for heads of state, logging approximately 5,222 flight hours. It features custom suede leather upholstery.

Queen Elizabeth used the helicopter for many journeys, including a flight from Sandringham to Windsor just months before her passing.

Queen Elizabeth’s Personal Range Rover Also Up for Auction

Alongside the helicopter, Queen Elizabeth’s personal Range Rover—used between 2006 and 2008—will also be auctioned.

The 2006 L322 model features unique touches, including a Labrador dog ornament with a grouse in its mouth, side steps, mudguards, and a custom dog barrier. Additional wiring was installed for security purposes. Despite having clocked 120,000 miles, it’s described as being in "perfect condition."

Notably, the rear grab handles were removed to ease the Queen’s access in and out of the vehicle.

The car's value is currently estimated between £9,000 and £16,000, but it's expected to fetch as much as £70,000 at the Silverstone Festival auction on August 23. Another royal Range Rover previously sold at the same auction house for £132,750.

A service report showed that in April 2009, a year after leaving royal service, the vehicle had driven approximately 18,000 miles. As of today, the mileage stands at just under 120,000.

Rob Hubbard, General Manager and Auctioneer at Iconic Auctioneers, commented:

"It’s rare to see a car of such royal provenance hit the market. This Range Rover combines exceptional quality with unique historical significance. We anticipate a high level of interest, just as we saw with previous royal vehicles.”
